Unfolding Food Crisis in Horn of Africa – shouldn’t we be doing more?

The Disaster Emergency Committee (www.dec.org.uk) appeal for drought-stricken people in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia was shown on TV over the 8th July weekend by ITV/ITN, BBC, Sky, Channel 4 and Channel Five. Up to ten million people are now facing starvation after a drought worsened in Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia. Are we, as individuals in the UK powerless, or is there anything that we can do now and in the future to stop unimaginable suffering in the Horn of Africa?

Greatest challenge for the human race

We face the possibility that global warming will lead to catastrophic changes in sea-level and climate. Doing nothing is not an option. We need change. I believe this generation is the generation of change: it can really make a difference. It has to. It’s the last generation that possibly can.
